Extended Events: Please Stop Using SQL Profiler

Edward Corcoran, DBA Leidos

I will cover why Extended Events are a better option than SQL Trace, and demonstrate how to get started using Extended Events. I will also demonstrate using Extended Events in SQL 2008 .... with a GUI!

About Edward:
SQL Server DBA for more than 10 years. I've worked as a DBA for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Morefield Communications, and as a Data Warehouse Architect for Penn State World Campus. I currently hold the following certifications: MCDBA, MCSE Security, MCIP SQL Server 2008​, MCIT SQL 2005, Security +, Network + ,​EIB, CIB, and a Secret Clearance. I was also a 2009 Computer World Honors Laureate, and I used to jump out of airplanes for the US Army.

Regular Meeting Details

PASSDC meets the second Thursday of each month at the Motley Fool in Alexandria, Virginia.

Meetings begin at 6:30pm, and typically last around two hours.

Note: The building is a secured building and the doors will most likely be locked when you arrive.
We will have someone at the front door to let you in. If you arrive early you will need to wait until 6:30 for us to let you into the building. a phone number you can text for entry between 6:30 pm and 7:30 will be posted on the door.
