High Availability and Disaster Recovery with SQL Server 2014 AlwaysOn Availability Groups

Jake Switzer, SQL Server and BI Consultant Microsoft Consulting Services

In this session we will discuss High Availability and Disaster Recovery using AlwaysOn Availability Groups in SQL Server 2014. We will discuss and demonstrate what Availability Groups are, what is required for an Availability Group to work (i.e. Windows Server Failover Cluster) how to create one and how to automate the creation process using PowerShell. Since Availability Groups were introduced in SQL Server 2012 we will also discuss the enhancements that were made in SQL Server 2014. We will then discuss some of the critical “gotcha’s” that you will need to account for when setting up and maintaining an Availability Group. Finally, we will discuss how to create a replica in Azure and how using Azure blob storage to store copies of your data can save you from a lot of headaches.
